Is voting a waste of time?
I am sitting here at the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) National Results Operations Centre (ROC for short) thinking about what will be happening today. This is a make or break election for the future (healthy) democracy of this beautiful land… don’t you agree?
The IEC is hoping for a record voter turnout (that is if the weather co-operates); but what will the Nation tell us today? Unfortunately we will only find out when the results are announced (hopefully by Saturday we will know our fate).
Back to the topic… voting is a waste of time!! Yeah right!
Mr Holomisa has said on his FaceBook page that his favourite quote is by Plato: "the price that good men pay for not being interested in politics, is to be governed by men worse than them."
In other words: you have to vote to ensure that the people that lead this Country are upstanding, corruption free individuals who have the political will to serve the people with their best interests at heart.
We always talk about our rights, but what about our responsibilities? We talk about government needing to be responsible; but what about the citizens?
Therefore, if we agree that we all need to vote, which party do we vote for? Pardon my bias, but I think the UDM is the right choice. If we talk about responsible leadership you must come to the conclusion that Bantu Holomisa fits that bill.
He is a straight talker (up to the point where he gets criticised for it – of course by the people who do not like what he says). Mr Holomisa is the only consistent political leader out there. He always says what he means, and means what he says.
Mr Holomisa is a principled man; remember, he was kicked out of the ANC because he would not hide nor condone corruption (an activity which certain ANC leadership seems to have perfected in the meantime).
The whole ‘military man’ image, I think, is NOT negative. In my estimation, he has all the good traits which we associate with the profession: discipline, loyalty, he is as neat as a pin and he has the mind of a strategist; thinking big picture.
What do you think?
